YandereDev enjoys pushing ideas to their limits, so he questioned, “Why stop at a criminal? Why not turn her into a serial killer?” He then offered the idea for a “yandere simulator” to a popular message board. A “juvenile delinquent” simulator was suggested by a buddy. He asked a friend what kind of game he would make if he had to use that protagonist model. YandereDev discovered a very cheap schoolgirl character model for sale on the Unity Asset Store when looking for models. YandereDev attempted to make other prototype games before working on Yandere Simulator, but he was unable to do so due to a lack of 3D models. It piqued his curiosity to learn to code. YandereDev felt that because the game was created by one person, he could do the same. YandereDev was motivated to create games after playing lji, a game created by a man named Daniel Remar.
